Insects and Butterflies

April Theme=Bugs and Spring


*Hello Song

*Weather Chart(season, etc.)

*Introduce letter of the day Ii for Insect!

*Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl using hand puppet props

*Discuss life cycle(review from last week)

*Butterfly Life Cycle activity. Need-paper plate divided into 4 parts and label (egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly). Children glue on a noodle to each section of the plate to represent the stage in the cycle. Egg=rice Caterpillar=rotini noodle Chrysalis=shell macaroni Butterfly= bowtie noodle. Children may use marker or paints to add color to the butterfly!

*Soccer outside with Rachel! :) Teaching about exercise and healthy living!

*Snack while reading "Bugs for Lunch by Margery Facklam

*Sort plastic "critters" as an insect or other. Use hoola hoops to make two distint areas to sort and discuss. Provide magnifying glasses to observe closely. INSECTS HAVE 6 LEGS!

*Table Activity- Drawing an insect-making sure each child adds 6 legs...practice name and recognizing the letter "I".

*Goodbye Song and Free Play!

IF EXTRA TIME- Make bird feeders from plastic water bottles.
